Overview:  California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Egyptology/Egyptian Studies. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of Anthropology (including Archaeology), Art (including Art History), or History according to her/his disciplinary focus.

Typical Activities

The successful candidate is expected to develop and teach upper-division and graduate courses related to Egyptology and Near East Studies, as well as teach introductory courses that incorporate related content, e.g., world history or introductory art history.  The successful candidate will produce scholarly research and provide service to the university and the community. The successful candidate will show potential for producing a strong record of research and publication and provide evidence of effective teaching.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in hand by the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD degree in anthropology, archaeology, art history, or history or a closely related field, with a dissertation specializing in Egyptology/Egyptian Studies.

Supplemental Information

Candidates will be expected to meet the traditional requirements of excellence in teaching, active scholarly and professional work, and service to the university and community. In addition, new faculty are encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the university’s strategic plan. This plan emphasizes: a) teaching and learning excellence; b) student access, retention, and success; c) excellence in research and creative activities; d) campus community; e) community engagement; and f) infrastructure.

The position is funded in part by the Harer Endowment Faculty Fellowship and supports the campus’s Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art.  Housing one of the largest public collections in southern California, the museum oversees nearly 500 ancient Egyptian artifacts dating from the Predynastic to Coptic Periods.
